Aaaaand we're weaning... the Runts are digging the mix of goat milk and Big Country Raw Pure Chicken. Right now, they're getting it three times a day- that'll increase to five times a day in the next week or so, as we give them less and less time with Mom. They're also playing SIGNIFICANTLY more than previously, and personalities are becoming more and more apparent, which makes them even more fun to be around!

For me, the scariest thing about having litters of puppies is wondering if they're all going to find their new homes in a timely fashion.
I couldn't be happier to report that the "C" litter, at only 4 weeks of age AND without advertising, are all sold to EXCELLENT homes!!! We're thrilled for the puppies- and their new owners- and hope to see them grow!

Moving towards the end of the dog days of summer (yay. I hate the heat...). The Runts are now actively playing and are hungry ALL THE TIME. Meeka welcomes the odd break to come back upstairs with the rest of the pack- but only lasts so long before she's asking to go back down. This week will be a transitional period, where we start weaning them and letting them out of the whelping box to start exploring their world. It's also the time when having a litter is no longer quite so easy- especially for Mrs. K. She'll be on them from here on out, cleaning up and making sure no one gets into any trouble.
Just to make sure she doesn't get bored, we are also expecting both Phoebe AND Scout to come into heat within the next month or so. Gunner will also have some work to do- but I suspect he won't complain...

Well- the "C" litter is just as popular as we suspected they would be; we now have deposits on 4 out of 5, and they're barely 2 weeks old! I think it's a testament to our program that we've sold puppies out of our last two litters to families we've purchased puppies from... they know we do this right.

Everyone's eyes are open now, and they are starting to crawl around, exploring the whelping box. Still a pretty easy time for Mrs. K, as Mom is still doing most of the work.
Meeks is doing her best to keep her weight up- she eats like a horse- but those little girls are heavy feeders for sure! When Meeka is out of the whelping box, they're getting quite demanding for her presence. She's been a great mom. Meeka gets to run about the yard with the other weirdos- but they're DEFINITELY curious about what's going on in the rec room. We keep three gates between them and the puppies- but Phoebe, for sure, knows EXACTLY what's going on, and she wants a piece of the action- we're quite sure this is going to bring her into heat a bit early.

The interminable wait for interesting developments continues. Nothing to say, really; they continue to gain weight at a respectable rate- as does Meeka. Each day. Cyndy spends time with her downstairs so she doesn't get too lonely. Each evening, I do the same. She's SUCH a sweetheart- we can only hope that her girls all get her personality- although Dad is a sweetie, too. Eyes should open this week.

All quiet on the western front...

At this age, the puppies aren't really doing anything except sleeping and eating. It's great to watch them forcing each other out of the feeding station they want, constantly jockeying for position.

Did I mention that Meeka is the sweetest little girl ever? That she's just a gentle love-bug that wouldn't hurt a soul? Did I also mention she bit me while we were fussing a bit too much with her puppies?

I'll forgive that transgression. As soon as she's away from them, she's the same little wiggle-worm as ever.
Speaking of little- we were a little concerned that she seemed to drop a bit of weight just before the pups came along- they must have been heavy feeders! She now gets her regular food three times a day (with the addition of a quail egg), and two meal replacements- which consist of a varied selection of chicken feet, sardines, flat raw rib bones, duck feet and blueberry Goat's milk (frozen pucks). She eats better than most people...

As predicted, the puppies have arrived right on time! Only five- must have counted one head twice... Mom is doing AMAZING!!! Puppies are doing AMAZING!!! Exhausted- pics tomorrow.

Happy first birthday to the "B" litter- Jodi & Bijou (Penny Lane), Julia & Beans, Kellisha & Boomer (Hank), Rowan & Birdie and Steph & Bandit (Jinx). A great litter, all with great owners- what more could we ask?!?!
